A dear friend of Chrysalis House, Carol Sauers Stange, passed away in November 2020. Carol was a warm, compassionate person with many social justice causes. In Carol’s career as an administrator for substance abuse services, she served as the Kentucky Women’s Program Director for many years.
Chrysalis House and Friends of Carol have establish a special fund in Carol’s name. We believe that this ongoing fund will continue Carol’s legacy in a meaningful way.
The Carol Sauers Stange Education & Training Awards for Women. (The Friends of Carol Award).
The award was established in Carol’s memory to support Chrysalis House graduates who are facing obstacles related to advancing employment or furthering an educational pursuit while providing the primary source of financial support for their families. Award recipients will be chosen among applicants who are striving to overcome traumatic and painful pasts and break the generational cycles of poverty, addiction, and violence to achieve brighter futures for themselves and their children.
To be eligible for The Carol Sauers Stange Education and Training Award for Women, applicants must show active participation in the recovery community and have plans to enroll in college, are currently attending college or an advanced training program, or are working towards a job advancement that requires specialized skills.
Graduates of Chrysalis House may apply by completing and submitting the online application. Applicants must have two letters of reference from individuals who can attest to their involvement in the recovery community and are familiar with their educational and/or employment advancement goals.
The award will be offered twice annually and recipients will be selected among qualified applicants by the FOC committee.
Award recipients will be announced in May and October

Award amount: Up to $1,000 per recipient
